Experimental Evidence of Ganodermas Potential in Cancer Treatment

by Raymond Y. Chang, Meridian medical Group at the Institute of East-West Medicine and Department of Medicine, Cornell Medical College

August 30, 2009

From a theoretical point of view, it is important to note that other fungal polysaccharides of comparable structure and function as those found in Ganoderma have undergone rigorous clinical trials, including Lentinan, Sizofilan, PSK (Krestin), PSP. Since it is now increasingly clear that immunostimulatory bioactivity from most beta-glucan based compounds function via a similar beta-glucan receptor (Czop 1985), it has been possible to hypothesize that Ganoderma polysaccharides should function similarly (Chang, 1996). Clinical effects of various glucan based BRMs should therefore be comparable. Results from Lentinan, Sizofilan, PSK and PSP human trials demonstrated the efficacy of these glucan BRMs in prolonging survival in recurrent or advanced gastric and colon cancer, lung cancer and gynecological cancers, Data from such bioactively comparable compounds all suggest improved quality of life or survival for cancer patients may be possible with Ganoderma supplementation ...

As a supplement for cancer patients to enhance survival and reduce likelihood of metastasis. While only anecdotal data exists that ganoderma supplementation may enhance survival of cancer patients, this survival advantage has been demonstrated for a number of comparable glucan BRMs ...
As a supplement for cancer patients to improve quality of life. Again, only anecdotal information exists for Ganoderma in this situation but other oral glucan derivatives such as PSP has been found to be useful in improving quality of life in cancer patients (Yao 1993). Significantly, Ganoderma supplementation was noted to decrease pain in cancer patients (Kupin 1994) ...
As a supplement for the prevention of occurrence or recurrence of cancer ...

Keeping well with Ganoderma

July 23, 2009

Understanding that Ganoderma is not a cure but rather a natural health supplement is important. This is a remedy that can work small miracles however it will take time for the supplement to kick in. The reason why Ganoderma is considered to be a natural health supplement rather than a medicine is because it should be used to boost general health rather than one specific ailment. Quickly gaining popularity in the United States and Australia, Ganoderma can be a great compliment to other medicines you may be taking by aiding your body's natural immune system, making it more receptive to medicines you put in your body. Talking about Ganoderma Lucidum

June 21, 2009

I discover that with regular use of Ganoderma Lucidum, it can prevent many health problems and provide health benefits that may lasts forever. But in order to have this lasting health benefit, we should also make some changes in our lifestyle and improve some of our habits to suit the body system. Taking Ganoderma Lucidum and abusing our body at the same time will not show effective outcomes. We should also remember that in some aspect, Ganoderma Lucidum only PROVIDES, HELPS, PREVENT and ENHANCES substances that will help our body. A misinformed user of Ganoderma Lucidum has unrealistic expectations from it and when he is not able to get 100% results as per his expectations in a time frame, he ignores all the other health benefits and starts under estimating its power.

Mushrooms Used as Medicines throughout History

by Dr. Markho Rafael

June 15, 2009

5,300 years ago, an injured and starving man from Val Venosta, Italy, fled across an Alpine glacier to escape pursuers. But his enemies caught up with him and with a practiced arrow-shot penetrated his shoulder blade and subclavian artery. Before long, he was dead from blood loss. “Oetzi the Iceman” was found mummified in 1991. On his person were pouches containing mushroom remedies, the oldest known proof in existence of medicinal mushrooms usage.

There is good reason to believe he carried both of these mushrooms along as natural remedies. Whipworm parasite eggs were found in Oetzi’s intestines. Birch polypore mushroom Piptoporus betulinus is a traditional de-worming remedy. The other mushroom in his possession, Tinder fungus (Fomes fomentarius), may have been used to cauterize the wound on his right hand.
